\"The thing that hit me hardest was the pressure they put on themselves.<\/p>
They\u2019ve seen what rugby can lead to. Scholarships, better schools, opportunities that don\u2019t exist otherwise. They\u2019ve watched older players go through the system and come out the other side with a completely different future.<\/p>
So every mistake matters to them.<\/p>
You could see it in their reactions. Frustration after a dropped ball, heads down after small errors. Moments that most players would brush off, but here they carry more weight.<\/p>
A big part of my role wasn\u2019t just coaching skills, it was trying to shift that slightly. Letting them enjoy it. Letting them be kids. Showing them that being part of a team, enjoying the process, that\u2019s what actually makes you better in the long run.<\/p>
That balance isn\u2019t easy when so much feels like it\u2019s on the line.<\/p>

Behind all of this are the mums. And they\u2019re the reason it works.<\/p>
One mother I spoke to had sent her daughter away to boarding school on a rugby scholarship. She told me: \u201cRugby is good to her. It makes her to have big mind.\u201d<\/em>
Because that\u2019s what this really is. It\u2019s not just about sport. It\u2019s about direction.<\/p>There\u2019s also a reality to it that\u2019s hard to ignore.<\/p>
A lot of the kids turn up to training hungry. The food the charity provides isn\u2019t a bonus, it\u2019s essential. It\u2019s part of why they\u2019re there, and part of what keeps everything going.<\/p>
